About This Course

Young people with additional needs and their parents share their powerful experiences and personal learning of what helps and hinders the process of ‘letting go.’

Using our new transitions framework you will gain practical skills and resources to enable young people and their families to prepare for and succeed in lifes big changes, including:

  • Leaving school or college
  • Joining social activities
  • Building relationships
  • Getting a job
  • Moving home.

Delivered alongside staff from the Scottish Transitions Forum, Scotland’s experts on improving support for young people with additional needs.

Parents and carers

Parents and carers of young people aged 14+ with additional support needs, and all the professionals who support them.

Our Trainers

Alexander Warren is an actor, a teacher and a Hearts fan (please don’t hold that against him)! He runs his own business, AJP Dreams, to inspire young people to go for their dreams and to encourage families and professionals to listen and help – in particular, to imagine bigger and not simply make do with what appears realistic. 


David Warren is a retired computer scientist. His son Alexander inspires people across Scotland by sharing his life story and experiences of living with a learning disability. David occasionally helps him write his presentations and gives a “parent’s view”. He is immensely proud of how his son has overcome his disadvantages in life, and his commitment to helping others.  


Julie Cuzen is mum to Ryan, 26. She worked in law for 17 years before putting her career on hold to support Ryan’s wellbeing through education and after leaving school. She strongly believes being active is vital to mental and physical health and wellbeing, and has been involved with disability sport at all levels. Her passion for supporting others has led to a long involvement with ARC Scotland and she remains firmly committed to changing things for the better.


Ryan Cuzen is a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award holder. He is also a member of ARC Scotland’s Divergent Influencers, and an ambassador both for ILF Scotland’s Transition Fund and Wing Tsjun Glasgow. He is working towards his 7th Grade in Wing Tsjun. Ryan has been involved with many organisations in the development of new funds and services for children and young people with additional support needs and is passionate about using his own experience to improve the journey for others in the transition through education and beyond.


Scott Richardson-Read co-facilitates the Scottish Transitions Forum, primarily working with a group of young people called the Divergent Influencers to ensure disabled and autistic voices are heard when it comes to transition. He works alongside professionals, software developers, academics, policy makers, local authorities, Scottish Government and third sector organisations to make sure growing up for young disabled, autistic, and other young people with additional support needs is the best it can be.


Tracey Francis co-facilitates the Scottish Transitions Forum, bringing people together to improve the experiences of young people with additional needs aged 14-25 who are making the transition to young adult life. She is particularly interested in ensuring parents, carers and families of young people have the information and support they need throughout the transitions process, and that their voices are heard in policy and practice development.
