Specialist CPD Qualifications

The Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) at Levels 3 and 4 in Learning and Development are suitable for people in a training or learning development role who are working with individuals or groups of learners.

They include a wide choice of optional Units which allow candidates to develop planning, design, delivery, assessment and evaluation skills.

Level 3 candidates would be expected to have responsibility for planning, delivering and evaluating training. Whereas Level 4 is aimed at senior trainers, or training co-ordinators/managers who plan, deliver and evaluate programmes and/or have some management responsibility for others.

As these are work-based qualifications candidates should be working in a training role to ensure they are able to generate the required work-based evidence.

The qualification in Learning & Development can be offered as standalone units to enable individuals to demonstrate continuous professional development or taken as a group award to achieve either the Level 3 or Level 4 in Learning and Development.

The following provides an overview of units that can be undertaken individually for continuous professional development. Each unit is costed at £280 if taken individually.

Learning & Development Level 3 (SCQF 8):

  • Plan and Prepare Specific Learning & Development Opportunities
  • Engage and Support Learners in the Learning and Development Process
  • Develop and Prepare Resources for Learning and Development
  • Evaluate and Improve Development Sessions
  • Develop Productive working Relationships with Colleagues.

Learning & Development Level 4 (SCQF 9):

  • Plan and Prepare Learning and Development Programmes
  • Evaluate and Improve Learning and Development Provision
  • Reflect on, Develop and Maintain Own Skills and Practice in Learning and Development
  • Identify collective Learning and Development Needs
  • Identify Individuals’ Learning and Development Needs
  • Develop and Prepare Resources for Learning and Development
  • Manage Learning and Development in Groups
  • Facilitate Individual Learning and Development
  • Engage and Support Learners in the Learning and Development Process
